What this means is that the marketplace for almost any
product has changed forever because of the internet. Now,
anyone can get almost anything at any time or anyplace. Never
before in history has this happened.
What this means for an affiliate marketer is that you can
cash in on this phenomena. You don't need to sell alot of one
thing (that would be nice!), but rather a few of many
things.
The beauty of this is that there is an almost endless
variety of products that you can choose from to make money.
Niche marketing is all about the long tail.
Why is it called the Long Tail?
The red part represents the hits, the big sellers. There are
not so many, but they sell a lot.
The yellow part is the long tail, the many products that
don't sell in large amounts.
For a niche marketer, the long tail represents an almost
endless marketplace of onesies and twosies. The remarkable
thing is that the volume of the long tail is about the same as
the hits!

this excellent book.
